Popular Star Wars meme is mentioned in Season 3 of The Mandalorian

“Chapter 19” by The Mandalorian seemed to refer to a popular Star Wars joke from the internet of yesteryear.

The third episode of The Mandalorian The third season could end up being a divisive one, despite being the show’s longest episode to date. It started out with a high-profile action sequence, but then the focus quickly shifted to Dr. Penn Pershing on Coruscant.

Fans will remember Pershing as the Imperial clone scientist from the first two seasons. Now rehabilitated, he began a new life in the New Republic Amnesty Program, which aimed to give ex-Imperials a fresh start and a new purpose.

But the good doctor’s fall from grace begins when he meets an old colleague from Moff Gideon’s ship. She appeared to befriend Pershing, but her real intentions were far more sinister.

The Mandalorian‘s “Chapter 19” seems to acknowledge a long-running Star Wars internet meme: “Come to the Dark Side, We Have Cookies.”

This comes into play when Dr. Pershing mentioned his fondness for yellow Imperial travel biscuits to a group of ex-Imperial officers in the New Republic’s amnesty program.

A short time later, in the middle of the night, a box of those biscuits stood on his doorstep.

Elia Kane used the rations to gain Pershing’s trust and lure him into her trap. Through those cookies and her words, she was able to persuade the doctor to commit a crime. Essentially, the dark side had cookies.

The meme is actually quite a few years old; by all appearances it was created over a decade ago.

what is dr Pershing’s future in Star Wars?

At the end of the episode, Pershing was put in a mind flayer machine coated in sugar to make it sound therapeutic.

The Mind Flayer has been referenced in other Star Wars content, and its purpose is pretty much what it says on the tin: it erases the subject’s mind. It actually appears to be similar to a lobotomy.

In this episode of The Mandalorianthe device was used at a lower, less effective voltage until Elia Kane brought it to full power, likely damaging Pershing’s brain.

It remains to be seen if Pershing will appear in other MandoVerse shows, but it seems unlikely. But there’s always a chance, given his expertise in the field of cloning, which certain groups are very interested in.

The Mandalorian releases new episodes on Disney+ every Wednesday.
