Prep football preview: Big men up front are key to successful offense

If you want to know why Santa Ana Mater Dei has won 17 straight games over the past two seasons, look no further than the offensive line. The Monarchs are known for producing big, powerful, and effective blockers, and this year’s group should be no different.

They have to start with four-year-old starter BJ Tolo, who switched to middle and didn’t miss a beat. DeAndre Carter is a 340-pound senior with strength and toughness.

USC recruited Tobias Raymond from Ventura. He’s 6-foot-7 and 250 pounds. Apple Valley’s Raymond Pulido was at St John Bosco in the spring but has returned to his old school and will play guard at £350. He is recruited by UCLA, Alabama and Oregon.

Raymond Pulido, a 6-foot-7, 350-pound offensive guard, is back for his senior year at Apple Valley.

St. Francis has two future NCAA Division 1 blockers in senior Rachin Delgatty and junior Phillip Ocon. Murrieta Valley’s Jason Steele and Huntington Beach’s junior Justin Tauanuu will be key players for their respective teams.

Oaks Christian’s Luke Baklenko is a 6-6, 300-pound senior committed to Stanford.

Junior offensive tackle Aitor Urionabarrenechea has joined Chaminade from Bishop Alemany and joins an experienced offensive line that will cause trouble in the Mission League.

JSerra’s senior center David Tuliau was All-Trinity League last season.
