Prince Andrew Positioned To Step In For King Charles At Any Given Time

uh-oh British Royal News suggests there is a rule whereby Prince Andrew could step in for King Charles at any time. Here’s what you need to know.

According to the Royal Family’s website (which has yet to be updated following the death of Queen Elizabeth II), in the event that the monarch may be unable to perform official duties, “due to illness or absence abroad, two or more Councilors of State will be appointed per Act appointed patent certificate [His] Majesty’s Square.”

The five councilors of state include the sovereign’s spouse and the next four people in the line of succession who are over the age of 21. It looks like Camilla, Queen Consort will therefore step in, as will the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Sussex, the Duke of York and Princess Beatrice.

The order is bound by law, but it’s likely the Queen and Prince William will assume royal duties before it reaches both Prince Andrew and Prince Harry. While it’s unclear whether or not Andrew in particular will rejoin the firm under Charles’ rule, the King has already received backlash after Andrew is allowed to wear a military uniform ahead of the Queen’s funeral, while Prince Harry may not.

The Duke of York has since settled a sex abuse scandal that led to his exit from the company, while amid constant scrutiny from the press and tensions within the royal family, Prince Harry left to begin his new life in California with Meghan Markle . Buckingham Palace has since scrapped the rule, and the Duke of Sussex is wearing military attire for the Queen’s final vigil on Saturday.

Despite criticism, however, royal insiders claim that Charles was instrumental in stripping the Queen’s ‘favourite son’ of his titles in early 2022 – along with Prince William, who believes Andrew should be ‘banished’ – and Princess Anne was tapped to take on a more official role during the king’s reign in the ever-changing company.

Meanwhile, the lowering into the Royal Vault was the last time the Queen’s coffin was seen by the public. She was officially buried at around 7.30pm Monday at a private event alongside her husband Prince Philip.
