Harry, in an excerpt from the book reported by the Guardian, claims that William “grabbed me by the collar, tore my necklace and … threw me to the ground”.

The 38-year-old Duke claims he suffered a visible injury to his back after the 2019 argument at Nottingham Cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace, where he was then living.

And while describing the incident, Harry revealed the pet names he and William use for each other.

The Prince of Wales calls Harry “Harold” while the Duke calls William “Willy”.

Harry says William was already “red hot” when he arrived and wanted to talk about their deteriorating relationship.

According to Harry, it became a shouting match when William complained about his wife Meghan, calling her “rude” and “abrasive”. William insisted he was trying to help.

The Duke of Sussex replied: “Are you serious? Help me? Sorry – is that what you call it? Help me?”

Harry claims he then poured William a glass of water and said, “Willy, I can’t talk to you when you’re like that.”

He then says his brother called him “another name” and then “approached me.”

Harry claims: “It all happened so quickly. He grabbed my collar, broke my chain and threw me to the ground.

“I landed on the dog’s bowl, which broke under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there dazed for a moment, then got up and told him to get out.”

He says William told him to hit him back but he refused and so his brother left, “with a look of regret and an apology”.

William then told his brother not to tell Meghan about the confrontation, according to Harry.

Harry says he replied, “You mean you attacked me?” to which he claims William replied, “I didn’t attack you, Harold.”

The extract from Harry’s book was published by the Guardian. It’s unclear how they obtained an early copy.
