PS5 Shortages Expected To Stabilize And Overtake PS4 Sales By 2024

It’s no secret that the PlayStation 5 has been a frustratingly elusive one for millions of Sony fans around the world. In the fall of 2021, Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki outlined plans to invest more in the console semiconductor shortage associated with the pandemic. But acc Eurogamer, Component scarcity isn’t the only thing catalyzing the New-Gen deficiency. The Russia-Ukraine war also affected parts inventory. In a financial presentation held yesterday, Sony CEO Jim Ryan stated that PS4 sales continue to outperform the PS5. However, scarcity is expected to stabilize and overtake PS4 sales by 2024.

In the image above you can see the PS5 projections. In the first year, the PS5 outsold the PS4, in the second year it undercut the PS4 due to supply bottlenecks, in the third year the gap should be closed, and from the fourth year the PS5 should overtake its predecessor again. Of course it won’t be easy. Sony has two plans to accelerate the gradual increase in sales: sourcing multiple suppliers for more stability and facilitating logistical negotiations to maintain optimal supply routes.

Matt Miller gave the PlayStation 5 an A- in his review of the console, stating:

“The PlayStation 5 is an incredibly powerful and sophisticated piece of gaming hardware that at times virtually eliminates the screen-loading tedium that has plagued console gaming for decades. Games look amazing thanks to new lighting techniques, especially on 4K displays, and a proprietary sound engine ensures an equally immersive listening experience. Its external aesthetic, while attractive, is also stunning, and the design isn’t going to appeal to everyone. A slick dashboard is easy to use and intelligently designed, valuing what is important to you, especially your free time. “

Hopefully we’re all getting the next-gen Sony console we deserve as we move towards a future where stronger hardware takes precedence.
