Putin Uses Russia’s Victory Day Parade to Justify Invasion of Ukraine

MOSCOW — Russian President Vladimir Putin has used the annual celebration of victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two to justify the Kremlin’s assault on Ukraine, saying it was the only way to stop what he said was a planned attack on Russia.

Addressing the nation from Red Square ahead of a traditional military parade there on Monday, the Russian leader said the Kremlin has every indication of a clash with Ukraine, which he says is caused by followers. American-backed neo-fascism was inevitable, so Moscow acted preemptively.
