Rachel Morin’s boyfriend says he would “never harm” her as police investigate the murder

Sheriffs said Sunday they had “zero” possible suspects after finding a body, and also warned those following the case to “be careful what they share” and speculate on social media.
After police recovered the body of a woman she believed had been reported missing by her boyfriend, he protested his innocence on Facebook.
The search for Rachel Morin — a mother of five from Bel Air, Maryland — began Saturday night, August 6, after her boyfriend reported her missing. According to officers, he said she walked to a nearby trail around 6 p.m. and told police that while her car was at the start of the trail, she hadn’t been there.
The Harford County Sheriff’s Office began what it called an “extensive” search for her at this point, and also filed a complaint Notice to the public asking for help finding Morin. At around 1 p.m. on Sunday, they received an emergency call saying that the body of a woman had been found on the path.

“While we strongly believe this is the body of Rachel Morin, the final decision rests with the coroner and that has not yet happened,” Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said stated last night during a press conference.
He added that the case went from missing to murder after her body was recovered. Though he was reluctant to reveal what they found at the scene, he said there was “evidence” of murder and that investigators had “no doubt” they were “sad” to hear of a murder.
Gahler explained that the path where the body was found “has always been considered a fairly safe place,” adding that while he can’t say the danger to the community is gone, it will be reopened. Still, he urged the public to exercise caution when wearing earbuds and to follow “predictable routines” when out walking, while also suggesting exploring the trails with a buddy or possibly a whistle. He also said there will be an increased police presence in the area while the case is still under investigation.
“Investigators continue to work on the case as aggressively as possible,” he continued, saying, “At this point, there is no suspect.” suspect is zero.”
After noting the amount of attention the office’s public release of Morin’s disappearance drew, he urged those following the case to “be careful about what they say in their comments and make sure it’s true.” is factual.”

While authorities said they had no possible suspects during Sunday’s news conference, many took to Morin’s friend’s Facebook page to speculate about his possible involvement in the comments.
According to a post on Morin’s Facebook page Aug. 3, she has been dating Richard Tobin for at least a few weeks. Her post at the time was the first about him, which read: “I only started taking pictures a few weeks ago. But these are some of my favorites. From the beach to the mountains.”
In the comments, he wrote, “Looks stunning baby.” When she responded, “Thank you beautiful,” he added, “Thank you baby.”
On August 1, Morin also changed his relationship status, stating that the two are dating (under). In the comments, one of Rachel’s own brothers read: “Lucky dude! 🙂 Be good to her 🔪🔪🔪”. After Tobin replied, “Yes sir,” her brother added, “Thank you! I’m happy when she’s happy. I wish you both all the best.”
Since then, the post has been inundated with comments from people who don’t seem to know the couple at all and only ended up on his page because of the case. At the time of publication, the post had 430 comments – some speculating about its possible involvement, others warning commenters not to do just that – with Tobin now restricting who can post a message on it.
He also commented, writing: “I love Rachel, I would never harm her if the family and I were in mourning. Yes, I have a past, but I’m also 15 months clean and I’ve changed as a person. Please.”
His comment came about an hour before the press conference last night.
Morin’s sister has now started one GoFundMe to raise money for her funeral as well as a “great celebration of life”.
“There was no life insurance,” she wrote. “This was not an accidental death and she did not leave of her own free will and she deserves a funeral worthy of her beauty.”
“If there is any money left, they will be used for things that their five children may need,” she added. The fundraiser has raised $28,000 of the $50,000 goal so far.
