Today there were tributes to a popular Sky News and ITN presenter.
Rae Stewart has died at the age of 56. Friends said he suffered from an “illness” before his tragic death.
The experienced presenter has been a reporter for more than 20 years and previously worked as a journalist for ITN, Sky News and GMTV.
He also served as communications director for the Iraq investigation and as Nick Clegg’s press secretary.
Paying tribute to Stewart, journalist and broadcaster Stephen Jardine said: “My best friend Rae Stewart passed away after an illness. He was only 56 years old. Rae was a proud son of Tain and a brilliant journalist, author, husband, father and friend.”
“All my thoughts are with him and his beloved family today.”
And Mike Edwards OBE tweeted: “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Rae Stewart – a friend, colleague and fellow Highlander. A great guy who was met far too soon.”
Third colleague Gabriel Milland, who previously worked at No 10, said: “Extremely sad news about Rae Stewart.
“A friend and colleague in the Parliament press gallery and then in Whitehall. The driest of jokes.”
Stewart had published a novel called The Vibe in 2017.
Due to health reasons, he retired early in 2022.
