Rams removed Odell Beckham Jr. nameplate from locker room

The Rams presumably fell out of contention to re-sign free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. by not fighting for the playoffs.

In perhaps an admission that their pursuit was over, the nameplate that had adorned Beckham’s locker since last season was finally removed.

Beckham, who is recovering from knee surgery, has reportedly narrowed his picks to the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and other playoff teams.

Beckham, 30, signed with the Rams mid-season last year. The three-time Pro Bowl player caught an early touchdown pass in the Super Bowl LVI win over the Cincinnati Bengals before suffering a left knee injury in the second quarter. The injury required his second major knee surgery in three years.

Coach Sean McVay and his players made numerous public statements throughout training camp and early in the season to persuade Beckham to join them again.

But in October, in a series of tweets between Beckham and other Twitter users, Beckham wrote: “LA knows where I wanted to be…but they didn’t offer me anything…. Anything!” In another tweet, he said the Rams’ offer was “lowest of the lows.”

McVay said at the time that he was aware of the tweets.

“I love Odell, we have a constant dialogue,” McVay said. “I think he also knows that I certainly don’t think this is the last one that would come from us.”
