Rangers ‘to submit multi-million pound Tasos Douvikas offer’ – but face competition from Germany and Turkey

RANGERS are reportedly ready to offer around £7m for Greek striker Tasos Douvikas.

The 23-year-old Utrecht star has been linked with Gers for a few weeks and previously there were rumors of Celtic interest.

Douvikas is a Greece international with 15 caps and one goal for his country.

He had an excellent year for Utrecht in the Eredivisie last season, scoring 20 goals in 33 league games.

Those stats have given Rangers enough to consider an offer Nova Sports in the Netherlands.

They say the Ibrox club are determined to confirm their interest with a formal offer to the Dutch side – but there could be serious competition from other parts of Europe.

German club Borussia Mönchengladbach are said to be counting on Douvikas, as is Turkish giants Galatasaray.

Although Michael Beale has already secured a new striker in Dutchman Sam Lammers from Atalanta this summer, he has been reported to say he would like plenty of new strikers so it’s unlikely he’ll stop at just one.

Douvikas started his career at Asteras Tripolis and won the Greek Breakthrough Player of the Year award in his first professional season.

After three seasons he moved to league rivals Volos on a free transfer and scored eleven goals in 30 games for his new club.

This led to Utrecht stepping in for him, paying the Greeks a transfer fee of around £1m.

His first season in the Netherlands was relatively productive, scoring 14 goals in all competitions in 34 appearances before he enjoyed success last season and finished as the league’s top scorer.

If Torino hold on to potential Rangers forwards, they could take on the Light Blues’ move to Nigeria international Cyriel Dessers.

It was reported last week that Cremonese are considering lowering the asking price to £3.5million plus £900,000 in surcharges, as opposed to the £7million originally desired.

Antonio Colak was once thought to be walking out the exit door, but he has vowed to keep the number 9 shirt and has been spotted doing extra fitness exercises – during his honeymoon.
