Hip-hop star Roddy Ricch was arrested on gun charges hours before he appeared onstage at New York’s Governor’s Ball, according to a report.
The “Cooped Up” rapper was reportedly arrested with two others after attempting to bring firearms into the festival. Big mistake.
A gun allegation is serious and ESPECIALLY SERIOUS in New York City. Individuals caught with guns — particularly rappers — are typically jailed for the mandatory minimum sentence.
Roddy Ricch was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, a Class E felony. The firearms charge is the least serious of all firearm felony charges in New York, but prison time is mandatory for criminal firearm possession convictions, and there is one variety of sentencing options.
The maximum sentence is 1 1/3 to 4 years and the minimum sentence is 1 to 3 years. However, in very unusual circumstances, a judge may sentence a person convicted of criminal possession of a firearm to one year in prison if it is determined that a longer sentence would be unreasonably harsh based on the nature and circumstances of the allegations, history and character the accused person.
Riddy Ricch is a rapper and singer. He rose to fame in 2018 with his single “Die Young,” which peaked at #98 on the Billboard Hot 100. Ricch’s first two mixtapes, Feed Tha Streets (2017) and Feed Tha Streets II (2018), also received critical acclaim. In 2019, Ricch was featured alongside Hit-Boy on Nipsey Hussle’s single “Racks in the Middle,” which earned him a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance, and Mustard’s Grammy-nominated single “Ballin,” which made the Top 20 reached the Hot 100.
Ricch’s debut studio album Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial was released on December 6, 2019 through Atlantic Records and Bird Vision Entertainment and debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, becoming his first chart-topping album. It spawned the Hot 100 number one single “The Box,” which earned it a Diamond certification from the RIAA, and the top ten single “High Fashion,” which includes Mustard. Later in 2020, Ricch’s feature on DaBaby’s single “Rockstar” became his second number-one single on the Hot 100. His second studio album, Live Life Fast, was released on December 17, 2021.
Ricch has won multiple awards, including a Grammy Award from nine different nominations, as well as two BET Awards, two BET Hip Hop Awards, and an American Music Award.
