Tyler The Creator may be the first mainstream hip-hop star to come out as transgender. Media Take Out learned the rapper posted a picture of himself on Twitter wearing woman’s nail polish and calling himself a “hot gurl.”
Tyler has been flirting with gender and sexuality issues for the past 5 years. Many have speculated that the rapper – who is very private – is either gay or bisexual.
But Media Take Out heard the rumble it’s not just Typer’s sexuality that’s changing, maybe his gender too.
This weekend, Tyler decided to get people talking — first, the singer showed off his new blue nail polish. The rapper then referred to himself as a hot gurl.
These posts are evidence to many on social media that the rapper may be preparing to come out as transgender.
Tyler is a rapper and record producer. He is one of the founding members of the music collective Odd Future.
Okonma self-released his debut mixtape Bastard in 2009 and quickly garnered attention from the online music press for its horrorcore-influenced sound and violent, transgressive lyrical content. His debut studio album Goblin (2011) brought him mainstream exposure, helped by the popularity of the single “Yonkers” and its accompanying music video; During this period, Odd Future quickly gained popularity and Okonma faced controversy over his lyrics. Beginning with his second album Wolf (2013), Okonma began to move from his stylistic horrorcore to a more alternative hip-hop sound. His 2015 album Cherry Bomb focused more on melodies and jazzy sounds, which continued in his later discography. Okonma’s later albums Flower Boy (2017), Igor (2019) and Call Me If You Get Lost (2021) all received critical acclaim, with the latter two debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 and each won Best Rap Album at the 2020 and 2022 Grammy Awards.
As a visual artist, Okonma has created the cover art for Odd Future releases, their clothing and other merchandise. Okonma founded streetwear brand Golf Wang in 2011 and launched the annual music festival Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in 2012. Okonma also founded and operated the streaming service Golf Media between 2015 and 2018, the original series of Tyler and a live stream of every Camp Flog Gnaw carnival.
Okonma has won two Grammy Awards, three BET Hip Hop Awards, a BRIT Award and an MTV Video Music Award.
