I don’t usually get the chance to release a new product on the night of a big event, but when my liquid eyeliner ran out on the night of the Bad Bunny concert in New York, I had no choice. Putting my trust in Selena Gomez and the goddesses of beauty above, I have a thick layer Rare Beauty’s Perfect Strokes Matte Liquid Liner through my cap.
To my surprise, I didn’t need to use a Q-tip to clean up my often messy lines thanks to the super-precise and flexible brush head, made from over 1,000 vegan bristles. I add a thin layer of glitter eyeliner from Fluide Beautyy into the corner of my eye and walked up the block to Yankee Stadium in wet, eighty-degree weather.
I’ll be the first to admit how wary I was that this jet black Rare Beauty primer would last all night without smudging. I planned full on dancing, sweating, and crying happily throughout the concert and expected to look like a ravaged trash raccoon at the end of it all. With a concert invitation from Adidas, I knew I had to designate myself to look good. And, I’m glad I was right because the Aron Piper’s upstream fame sat behind me all night. So while I’m screaming Tití Me Preguntó, I also worried that I would look like modern-day Alice Cooper in front of Ander.

Hours after the show, a quick selfie assured me that the Selena Gomez-approved pad stayed in place despite liters of sweat streaming down my body. By the time I got home, almost twelve hours after my first application (yes, there was a party after that, of course I had to!), my liner looked like I’d just put it on before. .
But don’t just listen to me. One reviewer called the Rare Beauty liner a “holy grail” for its water resistance and smudge-free durability. “I had to walk in the pouring rain with my bangs getting water splashed right into my eyes. My hair, clothes and shoes were soaked. But my eyeliner doesn’t smudge at all.” Other shoppers love the long-lasting liner so much that they buy it over and over again, calling it “a great staple” and “a great selection at an affordable price.”
In addition to its impressive hold, Rare Beauty eyeliner is less than $20 and is sultate-, paraben-, phthalates-, and formaldehyde-free. Oh, and did I mention it’s also vegan and cruelty-free? Well, no famous beauty brand does it like Selena Gomez.
