Real Housewives of Dubai (RHODUBAI): Chanel Ayan Shares Her Traumatic Past, Others Think It’s an Excuse For Bad Behavior

At the Real Housewives of Dubai, Chanel Ayan shared a part of her life that no one ever expected. The reason she shared this trauma was to spread awareness that it is still happening and still exists.

The star is Somalian and Ethiopian and in the last episode of the show she revealed that at the age of 5 she was forced to endure a female circumcision performed to keep her a virgin until marriage.

The topic was addressed fairly openly on the show, which shocked viewers. She told fans: “I’m a survivor. I felt completely betrayed by my culture and my family. This is just a barbaric practice and should not happen to young girls. That happened to me 35 years ago and I’ve never gotten over it.”

She explained that her aunt and grandmother actually took her to a strange man’s house and “stitched up” her genitals. She added: “For this reason, in my culture, everyone is a virgin. Because how are you going to have sex if you’re stitched up as a girl until you get married? It’s a way of satisfying men.”

She continued about her trauma, “I think trauma is something I’ll live with for the rest of my life. So I want to talk about it because I honestly don’t want that to happen to anyone because I know exactly how it feels and it’s not good.”

With all this sharing, there is always some repercussion. Another Real Housewives of Dubai star, Sara Al Madani, feels that Chanel only finds excuses for her bad behavior. That statement came as Chanel called Sara “full of herself” and then said, “I love the way you talk and wish I could be like you one day but it’s too late.”

Sara told fans: “For her to take this story and victimize herself? I mean, we’ve all been through trauma in life, but that’s no excuse for treating people badly or behaving a certain way. Because maturity means figuring out what your problems are, solving them, and helping yourself.

It’s not about mistreating people and saying, “Hey, I’m traumatized.” For Ayan, I was a shoulder to cry on, I was the person she called for advice… I’ve done so much for Ayan. I was always by her side and brought her back. So I felt like we were building a friendship.”

These two can keep fighting and you can see it on Bravo!
