Repairs begin on Sparta Pike overpass on I-40 in Lebanon

LEBANON, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Tennessee Department of Transportation has announced that repairs to the Sparta Pike overpass on Interstate 40 in Lebanon will begin Sunday.

The repairs come after the overpass was damaged earlier this year by a dump truck. According to TDOT, in March, a dump truck under the overpass with the truck bed was still raised and damaged the concrete beam below.

Starting Sunday, drivers can expect rotating single-lane closures on Sparta Pike from 9am to 3pm and 8pm to 5am each day as teams begin fixing. structure repair. The extended weekend closure will also occur on Sparta Pike’s northbound lanes from 8 p.m. Friday, June 3 to 8:00 a.m. Monday, June 6. TDOT said in a statement. During that time, teams will remove damaged beams and install new beams.

An emergency repair contract worth more than $830,000 was awarded on April 15 to Central Construction Company to repair and replace the overpass.

Over the past three years, TDOT says the overpass has been damaged a total of four times. Three illuminated vertical static signs now lie along the Sparta Pike to warn motorists of the height of the stillness as they approach the bridge.
