Report: Ellen DeGeneres Met Final Episodes With Tears

The last episodes of The Ellen DeGeneres Show will feature more A-listers. There will also be a few empty boxes of Kleenex.

PageSix reported that Ellen DeGeneres cried profusely during the final days of production on the 18-plus-year-long daytime talk show. “The whole couple of weeks before the finale was very emotional,” a source said.

The show was finally taped on April 28 and is scheduled to air on May 26. Jennifer Aniston and Pink was introduced to the farewell, a nod indicating the two will be present in the first episode in 2003. (When David Letterman Retired in 2015, he pulled a similar schtick with Bill Murrayfirst guest on Late Night with David Letterman in 1982.)

Other big names that will appear in the series finale include Oprah Winfrey, Kate McKinnon, Justin Timberlake, Zac Efron, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Keith City, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Luke Bryan, Kerry Washington, Brad Paisley, Mila Kunisand Bruno Mars. Regardless of star power, PageSix reported that the final tape recording was somewhat subdued.

“She wants to go out quietly,” said the insider, commenting on the lack of red carpet or other winning laps after such a long time. “It was the friends and family of the cast and crew in the audience.”

It was also reported that Aniston joined DeGeneres in the teary ophthalmology, “she cried as soon as she walked on set.” DeGeneres’ wife Portia de Rossi was reported to be on set for the final two weeks.

DeGeneres announced the end of her show this time last year, about ten months after publishing an investigative article on BuzzFeed News in which former employees at the show called it a “culture” malicious work”. Ellen called the allegations “devastating,” but added that she felt they were “staged” and “it really felt so false.”
