Restaurant worker ‘violently’ attacked near Lower Broadway

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A suspect was charged early Tuesday morning after police said he assaulted a restaurant worker near lower Broadway.

According to Metro police, witnesses who approached officers said they saw Michael Deckard II, 34, “barbaricly beat” a worker at Joe’s Crab Shack located at 123 2nd Avenue South. Police said Deckard pushed the victim to the ground, punched him in the head more than a dozen times, stood up and brandished his gun before he fled the scene.

Officials said the victim was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center with severe head injuries.

Officers said they placed Deckard at 1 and Broadway and arrested him. While in the patrol car, police said Deckard spat on the officers. According to reports, the gun was dumped in a nearby alley and later found stolen.

Deckard faces a number of charges including aggravated assault, assaulting an officer and stealing a firearm. He is being held on a $65,000 bond. Restaurant worker ‘violently’ attacked near Lower Broadway
