Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has confirmed that he will be fit and ready for the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid on May 28.
Fabinho has been sidelined since picking up a hamstring injury in the Reds’ 2-1 win over Aston Villa on May 10. This caused him to miss the FA Cup final against Chelsea on 14 May, which Jurgen Klopp’s side won.
Despite his recent defeat, Fabinho has expressed confidence that he will be available to be selected for the final against Real Madrid. The Brazilian midfielder is currently making great efforts in the recovery process.
Speaking to AS (via the Liverpool Echo), Fabinho said the following:
“Yes, I will be there… to play. We are working and recovering to be ready for that final. I am very calm and very confident that I will be there, so we must continue to work and rest to be in the best shape for May 28.”
If appropriate, Fabinho could play a key role in Liverpool’s quest for a seventh Champions League title. The 28-year-old is one of the Premier League’s best defensive midfielders and has proven it this season. The former AS Monaco star is also known for his ability to take penalties, which could come in handy if the final culminates in a penalty shootout.
Fabinho has now made 47 appearances for the Reds this season, contributing eight goals and one assist along the way.
It is worth mentioning that Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are also on the list of injuries at the moment. However, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the pair will also be suitable for the Champions League final against Real Madrid.
Liverpool will win their third trophy of the season when they face Real Madrid in the final
After winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup earlier this year, the Red Devils are still competing for the back four with only two games left in all competitions.
Besides the Champions League final, Liverpool are also competing for the Premier League trophy. They are currently only one point behind leaders Manchester City entering the final week of the season.
On the other hand, Real Madrid are looking for their 14th Champions League title in their illustrious history. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have won La Liga and will be looking for a second trophy this season.
