WHAT WE FOUND

The viral photo of the abandoned Burger King is from an actual shuttered Burger King restaurant at Concord Mall in Wilmington, Delaware. In a phone call to VERIFY, Tom Dahlke, general manager of Concord Mall, explained that the fast food restaurant opened in 1987 and closed in 2009 Wall in front of the entrance of an apartment where a tenant is moving out and a new one hasn’t moved in yet.

The New Castle County government Facebook page posted a video of Dahlke giving a tour of the abandoned Burger King. The video showed the restaurant behind a makeshift wall with a door, and Dahlke mentioned that the mall was trying to find a tenant for the Burger King’s premises.

In the video, Dahlke explained that one of the mall’s vendors walked by the Burger King location while an employee watered the plants inside, noticed the door was open, and took a picture because he thought it looked cool.

“This puts us back on the map despite what anyone thought. We live and kick.”

Dahlke said there were no offers on the property as of June 30.
