The current top price is £18,000 for the ‘eye-catching’ custom in ‘exceptional condition’.

This model originally left the Ford factory in 1979 and has clocked up just over 54,000 miles since then, but that would be hard to believe given the car’s amazing condition both inside and out.

Immediately upon opening the doors, the driver is presented with one of the better preserved examples of the MK2 RS2000 interior.

But externally there are some modifications and upgrades.

It is fitted with a Mexico front spoiler, sports front bumpers and a set of excellent quad rally style Cibie fog lights.

Under the hood, however, everything has remained the same – the legendary 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ford engine is still functional.

A Cars and Classics spokesman said: “This is a truly superb example of one of Ford’s most revered performance models, presented in good condition and with quality modifications throughout.”

“It beautifully combines subtle modifications with genuine originality to create one of the finest and certainly most interesting examples of MK2 available on the market today.”

Bidding on the car ends on August 11 at 7:20 p.m.
