Rick Ross’ business unit Boss Wings Enterprises LLC has been fined by the Department of Labor for labor law violations at 5 of the company’s Wingstop franchise locations in Mississippi.
The company is now reportedly paying $114,427 in arrears in wages, penalties and civil penalties. At Rozay’s locations, employees had to pay for their own uniforms, background checks, and more, meaning employees took home less than minimum wage. At one location, a 15-year-old child was even allowed to work after 10 p.m.
“Hospitality workers work hard, often for low wages, and many depend on every dollar they make to make ends meet. The law prevents Boss Wing Enterprises LLC from passing on operating costs to workers by deducting the cost of uniforms, cash shortages, or training costs, or allowing a worker’s wages to fall below the minimum wage rate,” said Audrey, district wage director and Labor Hall Hours said in a statement.”
Wingstop released the following statement: “The restaurants inspected by the DOL are owned and operated by a franchisee, not Wingstop Restaurants Inc. Our franchise agreement requires all of our franchisees to operate to our standards of operation, which requires compliance with all laws and regulations . We were not previously aware of the DOL action against Boss Wings LLC.”
