Rina Sawayama announces new album ‘Hold The Girl’ and shares trailer

Rina Sawwayama has announced plans to release a new album and showcased the record with a short trailer – which you can see below.

Titled ‘Hold The Girl’, the sequel to her debut, 2020’s ‘SAWAYAMA’, will be released on September 2nd.

It comes after she shared a series of banners and flyers for fans that read “Rina Is Going To Hell” before deleting and updating her Instagram page last week.

She also closed her last show ‘Dynasty Tour’ last Friday (May 13) at New York’s Terminal 5 by introducing a new song.

Now, she’s shared a dramatic trailer featuring excerpts from her upcoming record.

Revisiting her debut, NME awarded the record five stars and said it was a “deeply personal portrait that doesn’t go to waste given the limitations of genre.”

Meanwhile, Sawaya performed as part of the BandLab NME 2022 Awards earlier in March, where she was also awarded the iconic middle finger for Best Live Director, supported by Grolsch.

During her acceptance speech, Sawaya talked about how she posted an ad in the back NME tried to get some bandmates when she was 15. “The friends in that band didn’t finish correctly,” NMEWill Richards noted in his review of Sawayama’s performance, “but those joining her on stage tonight are a perfect fit.

“Even so, everything revolves around Sawaya, a genre-unifying star, always surprising, breaking the boundaries of the future.”

She also recently collaborated with Brazilian singer-songwriter and world famous drag queen Pablo Vittar on the single ‘Follow Me’.
