Rio Ferdinand warns Man Utd fans to expect ‘mistakes’ from ‘risky’ David de Gea transfer replacement Andre Onana

RIO FERDINAND has warned Manchester United that top goalkeeper Andre Onana will make “mistakes” due to his “risky” style.

But Old Trafford legend Ferdy still believes the ‘amazing’ Inter Milan hero would be the best replacement for David de Gea.

Coach Erik ten Hag is reportedly close to signing Onana after long-time no. 1 De Gea left on a free transfer last week.

Ten Hag would like a goalkeeper like the Cameroonian, who is comfortable with the ball on his feet.

But former England defender Ferdinand fears this trait could be a weakness from time to time.

He said of Onana on his FIVE YouTube channel: “A huge talent and a real modern goalkeeper.”

“You see teams pressuring him and he doesn’t even panic.”

“He brings the ball inside, starts the pressing, says ‘Come on, come to me’ and then when that player comes to him, he knows there’s a free player somewhere else and he usually finds him. “

“I think there will be mistakes and when you play that risky you make mistakes and that happens.”

“But it’s about staying true to your beliefs, finding the right balance, and staying confident during those phases.”

United are leading the race to sign 27-year-old Onana.

And Inter have been linked with potential substitutes like Bayern Munich’s Yann Sommer.

But despite Onana being valued at £43m, it looks like United would have to bid closer to £50m to sign him.
