Rogue One Prequel Series Andor Premieres On Disney Plus In August

Star Wars Celebration kicked off today with a panel discussion featuring the projects Lucasfilm is working on and the new Star Wars series Andor had the limelight after the cast of Obi Wan Kenobi left the stage. Not only was there a brief interview with the show’s cast and crew, but a teaser trailer was released along with the release date on Disney+ on August 31st.

The featured teaser trailer is musically punctuated with anvil-like percussion and throaty vocals that set the theme of the footage. Andor focuses on the growing tension between the rebellious commoners and the overbearing Empire, and chronicles the five years of Cassian Andor’s life before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The trailer shows the citizens preparing for a conflict with Imperial forces, while Diego Luna’s Andor expresses his displeasure with the Empire through the footage. We see Cassian Andor sneaking around, of course, but also a new look at Genevieve O’Reilly, who returns as Mon Mothma, who last played that role in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. Peppered throughout with shots of a lush forest, a gleaming white base in a body of water, and a large futuristic city that’s most likely Coruscant.

The opening panel for this year’s celebration was not streamed, but plenty of news from the panel has come through the official Star Wars Twitter account. Executive producer Tony Gilroy said that 12 episodes of Andor has already been filmed for its fall premiere, and twelve more episodes will make up a second season that will tie directly into the events of Villain One.

Andor will stream exclusively on Disney+ and its August 31 premiere will include the first two episodes of the series.
