Former Indian cricketers RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha beat Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant on batting against Punjab Kings during IPL 2022 on Monday. RP Singh felt the youngster was in control of the innings after hitting a six but throwing a stick against Liam Livingstone.
As a result, the Capitals had to settle for a lower total of 159/7 in the first innings of the game.
Pant’s dismissal occurred in season 12, which ended after Lalit Yadav left. The captain started his half sensational with a one-six-hand win over Livingstone. However, Southpaw threw his bat away on the next serve. Livingstone slipped a wide angle and the left-hander slipped and stuck as he scored seven runs in the game.
Speaking midway on Cricbuzz Live, RP Singh said that falling into the trap was a mistake by Pant as it affected the whole team. The former purple hat winner claimed that the captain had a chance to get back into form and he missed it. He say:
“As a captain, your responsibility is to stay there and he shouldn’t fall into the trap. As spectators, we like it when there’s a battle out there. But the whole team struggled at the last minute. He’s already hit six goals; so another big hit isn’t necessary because if you see he hasn’t done too well in this tournament.”
“He’s always tended to play explosive punches but we haven’t seen that here. Today he had his chance because it’s an important game. You expect the captain or the main player. would explode and get us out of trouble. However, he lost his life and the Capitals managed 159. Team management also had to think about how Pant had to approach his innings.”
The 36-year-old added that DC’s momentum slowed a bit when Pant joined but he should still fight responsibly. Singh says:
“The situation he’s been in, the scoring has slowed and the momentum has changed. Sarfaraz Khan and Mitchell Marsh have created that momentum and while Lalit can’t be held accountable as much, it’s in captain. He hit a six and had no problem taking a single after maxing. The other four and over could have gone 11 times.”
The Capitals innings didn’t get off to a good start when David Warner lost his life to a golden duck. However, Marsh and Khan brought the team back into the game with a quick 51-run. However, the Kings came back late in the innings with Marsh leading with 63 points.
Pragyan Ojha dissects Rishabh Pant’s defeat against PBKS
Meanwhile, Pragyan Ojha joined RP Singh in criticizing the young player for not being able to control the rounds despite the time remaining. The former Mumbai Indians spinner thinks the batting keeper has to do more as a senior player, saying:
“Pant could have beaten in 4th place, but when he was in control of the game he faltered. It’s understandable if only 2-3 passes and he’ll run; however, when he can control the innings and has done it before, he can’t.We can say that Lalit Yadav lacks international experience, but we are talking about a captain here We’re talking about a player who has the potential to be India’s captain or a winner in a future match.”
The 33-year-old warned that players don’t become match winners by making brief cameos, adding:
“The winner of the match is not the one who hits four six out of four balls. The winner must know how to save the game or control it. As a result, Rishabh Pant missed an opportunity in just one fight. small. Punjab gave that bowler points, knowing that Pant’s stick would change the game and that a few runs wouldn’t matter much.”
However, the Capitals made up a 17-game winning streak by limiting the kings to 142-9. Shardul Thakur was the bowlers’ pick with a 4-0-36-4 scoreline and was dubbed the ‘Manof the Match’.
