Russell Brand news: Met Police investigate allegations of sexual offenses as comedian launches new Rumble livestream

The Metropolitan Police have received a number of allegations of sexual offenses following news reports about Russell Brand.

The comedian and actor has strongly denied allegations made by four women in an investigation by The Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches.

On Monday, police said they had since received “a number of allegations of sexual offenses in London” and elsewhere in the country.

In a brief statement, police said all allegations were not current and no arrests had been made.

The LAPD issued a statement this evening after the Met Police launched an investigation following allegations of a sexual offense in London and elsewhere in the country. The allegations follow news reports about Russell Brand, who has strongly denied all allegations.

A spokesman said: “We have not received any complaints and have not initiated any investigations. If a victim comes forward and a crime has been committed, we would investigate.”

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, from the Met’s Central Specialist Crime Command, said: “We continue to encourage anyone who believes they have been the victim of a sexual offense, no matter how long ago, to contact us.”

“We understand that it may be a difficult step and I would like to reassure that we have a team of professionals available to advise and support us.”

Police said they would offer specialist support to any women who have made allegations.

On Saturday, Brand thanked his supporters for “challenging” the allegations of rape and sexual assault made against him.

In the three-minute clip, posted on YouTube, Rumble and X, he said the week since the claims were made public had been “extraordinary and disturbing.”

Ed Balls recently responded in a Channel 4 quiz in January 2015 to Russell Brand calling him the “crunchy C-word”.

Speaking on the Political Currency with George Osborne and Ed Balls podcast, he said: “The next day I was on TV talking about politics and public spending and was asked about Russell Brand and why he had said that about me.”

“And it was really weird. I mean, what does clicking wrist mean? I mean, was it about my sexuality? Was it about a disability?

“I was just saying that I think Jo Brand is a better political commentator than Russell Brand and that he is a pound shop Ben Elton who has been in the news a bit.

“The result was this rapid deterioration of my relationship with Russell Brand, which, by the way, didn’t really exist before.”

He said he was “appalled by the terrible allegations that have been made by very brave women”, adding: “This may come at a heavy cost to them, but it is entirely right.”

ITV chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall said strong leaders were needed to call out inappropriate behavior and said “this may not have happened enough”.

Dame Carolyn reflected on how the industry deals with abuse of power within its ranks at the Royal Television Society (RTS) conference in Cambridge on Thursday.

Dame Carolyn told the RTS conference: “It’s a really serious problem. I think there are two things, some historical and some current, and then more will emerge.

“It won’t just be our industry, it will be much broader than this society. But I think the only thing you can know for sure is that every single broadcaster is going to take it very seriously. Nobody wants that to happen. It’s shocking what’s come out of it.”

Asked whether she thinks the message is getting across to top talent and leaders, Dame Carolyn added: “I think it’s only through someone speaking up, but also how the talent is managed and that is another very big area that we’re investing in.” It takes a lot of time, and that means you need strong leaders, managers who say: “This is not appropriate” or “There have been complaints and we will do about it.”

“I think maybe that hasn’t happened enough because it hasn’t come out enough.”

Piers Morgan claimed in his recent column that Katy Perry had a nickname for her ex-husband Russell Brand, who is currently accused of rape and sexual abuse.

Brand has vehemently denied the allegations made against him.

In his latest commentary for The Sun, published on Tuesday (September 19), Morgan, 58, recalled meeting Perry, 38, at a Vanity Fair party in Washington DC in 2013 – a year after hers Divorce from Brand.

Here, Morgan claims Perry referred to her ex-husband as “Rasputin” – the infamous Russian mystic and holy man known for his influence over the tsars and his legendary sexual exploits.

Russell Brand’s relationships with women have come into the spotlight as the star faces serious allegations of sexual misconduct.

The 48-year-old comedian and actor was accused of rape, assault and emotional abuse between 2006 and 2013, when he was at the height of his fame, working for the BBC and Channel 4 and appearing in Hollywood films.

He strongly denies the allegations and insists his relationships have always been consensual.

On Monday evening, a former partner spoke out about the allegations – the granddaughter of the late Fawlty Towers star Andrew Sachs.

Georgina Baillie is one of several women with famous parents who Brand had relationships with, but also had very public arguments with their fathers.

A woman has claimed Russell Brand exposed himself to her and laughed about it minutes later on his BBC Radio 2 show, the BBC reported.

A BBC spokesman said: “We are very sorry to hear about these allegations and we will be investigating them. We are currently conducting an investigation to investigate allegations of this nature. If the woman who shared her story is willing to speak with us, we would be very interested to hear from her and anyone else who may have information.

“An important part of the review is to understand what complaints were made at the time, whether there was knowledge of Russell Brand’s behavior while working at BBC Radio and what action was taken as a result.” The office team and everyone who worked there in 2008.
