Russia Launches Fresh Barrage on Kyiv After Zelensky Vows to Strengthen Ukraine’s Air Defenses

KYIV, Ukraine—Russia fired a barrage of rockets at Kiev and other parts of Ukraine on Saturday in what many Ukrainians see as an attempt to intimidate them on New Year’s Eve.

The attack of more than 20 rockets is the second this week and comes hours after the President Volodymyr Zelensky committed to strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities by 2023. The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, Valeriy Zaluzhny, said 12 missiles were intercepted.
