Russia Redoubles Attacks in Ukraine’s East After Retreat From Kherson

Fighting broke out in eastern Ukraine as Russian forces continued their efforts there after retreating from the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson.
The loss of Kherson – the only regional capital occupied by Russia since it launched an all-out invasion of Ukraine in February – is a blow to Moscow, which claims to have annexed the Kherson region into its territory in September. But the withdrawal also freed up about 20,000 troops for Russia to redeploy to other fronts, including in the eastern Donetsk region.
