BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — A Ukrainian Catholic church in Bethlehem, Lehigh County, was vandalized for the third time since March.
Father Paul Makar says thieves climbed the steeple of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of St. Josaphat and each time removed copper plates.
As it happened on Wednesday evening, someone caught the thieves in the act, but they got away.
Father Makar says his community is concerned: “The war in Ukraine that has been going on since February has made our entire community very nervous, and not only our Ukrainian population who are here, but also the neighbors in the area who are now concerned for their safety.”
The church is in the process of replacing the copper plates.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Bethlehem Police.
