Samantha Morton claims Harvey Weinstein tried to destroy her career

The actress claimed Weinstein wouldn’t cast her in his films after turning down a role in a film she described as “really misogynistic.”
Samantha Morton opens up about her alleged experience with the disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein.
In a recent appearance on The Louis Theroux PodcastThe 46-year-old actress claimed Weinstein tried to “destroy” her career after she turned down a role in his 2000 romantic comedy About Adamwhich she described as a “really misogynist” film.
Morton said she was approached with the project after Weinstein saw her perform in the 1997 film. under the skin. However, she had no interest in starring in the film — and according to Morton, Weinstein didn’t take it well and subsequently threatened her career.

“I said, ‘I don’t like it,'” Morton said About Adam. “I find the film really misogynistic and I don’t want to be a part of it.” The casting director replied, “You don’t say no to Harvey.” Well, it’s not about him. I just don’t want to do this film… and I just worked on it with Stuart Townsend under the skin. It just wasn’t interesting for me. I was exceedingly polite.”
“I [then] I got a call saying, ‘You can’t say no,'” she added. “The ‘no’ wasn’t heard.” So they kept coming back with this role and I was told in no uncertain terms, ‘You’re not going to work again if you don’t get this role.’ I’m going to make your life hell . You’re not going to work again.’”

“I forgot [About Adam] because it was years ago,” she explained. “And then, all these years later, I realized that [when] I get an offer, I get a letter from a director, whether Miramax or then the Weinstein Company has anything to do with it, it was just awful for me.
“He had a reason, a deep-rooted reason, to just try and destroy my career, and he couldn’t,” Morton added. “He categorically couldn’t because I kept working and making independent films around the world.”

People should just stop using my name at this point to further their own goals — it’s too easy to say it and make it viral, but it doesn’t make it a fact.”
March 2020, Weinstein was convicted in New York City for third-degree rape and a first-degree sexual offense to 23 years in prison, which he is currently serving. Almost three years later, he was convicted Sentenced to 16 years in Los Angeles prison after a jury found him guilty of rape.
