Europe is keen to see if Canada’s decision to break its own sanctions and allow turbines powering the Nord Stream pipeline to be repaired and returned to Russia will be enough to persuade Moscow to restore natural gas flow to Europe.

Nord Stream, the main artery for Russian gas to Europe, is closed until July 21 for routine peacetime maintenance. European governments fear Moscow will not reopen the pipeline afterward, severing a lifeline for the European economy and escalating the confrontation with the West over the invasion of Ukraine.
