Much of the damage from the Schumer-Manchin drug deal takes years to become apparent. But industry insiders can already guess, and one example is fewer treatment options for critically ill cancer patients.

The bill under discussion would authorize the Secretary of Health and Human Services to “negotiate” Medicare drug prices. “They have full leeway to basically decide what price they want the drug to be priced at,” AbbVie chairman Richard Gonzalez said on an earnings call on Friday. “This is not a negotiation.
