Seahawks’ Darrell Taylor visits Seattle school, gifts students athletic gear

“It’s great for me to be here and I inspire them as much as they inspire me,” said Darrell Taylor, defensive end for the Seattle Seahawks.

SEATTLE — More than 100 students got a big surprise at school this week thanks to the Seattle Seahawks and UnitedHealthcare.

Seahawks defensive end Darrell Taylor visited Dunlap Elementary School for a meet and a great giveaway. Students from Dunlap Elementary School, South Shore Pre-K-8 School and Rainier Beach High School all participated.

Taylor spoke to the students about staying physically and mentally active.

Taylor told students that going to school and taking health seriously is very important to becoming the successful people they want to be.

The UnitedHealthcare Community Plan has partnered with Darrell Taylor to facilitate the giveaway. UnitedHealthcare’s partners say they are committed to ensuring children are equipped with clothing that stays warm, healthy and comfortable when the winter weather hits.

“I love the idea that we can have a guest for UnitedHealthcare with us that they can relate to, but Darrell Taylor is someone they look up to,” said Lisa Contreras, UnitedHealthcare Regional Communications Director.

Taylor also took the time to surprise each student with something special.

Each student received a back full of goodies, including new shoes, a Seahawks sweatshirt, and other items.

“It’s great for me to be here and I can inspire them as much as they inspire me,” Taylor said.

For kids like Savion Englesberg, it was a day he will never forget.

“I’m very excited. I got Air Maxes. They cost a lot,” Englesberg said.

Englesberg said he’s a big Seahawks fan, so meeting Taylor and receiving a gift was inspirational.

“It makes me feel like the universe is bigger and they donate to different kids and they come to celebrate something,” Englesberg said.

Taylor said he was inspired to meet these students.

“To be here today is a huge encouragement and it means a lot to me and it’s important to me to give back to the community!” Taylor said. Seahawks’ Darrell Taylor visits Seattle school, gifts students athletic gear
