Seattle Kraken help 7-year-old’s wish come true

SEATTLE — Jackson Boboth was diagnosed with cancer at the age of seven. He faced aggressive cancer treatment, including blood transfusions and chemotherapy, at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

He made a wish at the hospital, and the Seattle Kraken helped make it come true.

Jackson is a longtime hockey fan and plays hockey with his siblings on their porch in Kraken jerseys.

“He wanted to skate with Kraken before they were a team!” Carrie Boboth said her son has been dreaming of walking on ice with his heroes for two years.

Meanwhile, Seattle’s NHL team has been limited in their community affairs due to COVID-19.

“We can’t go to school. We can’t go to the hospital. And Make-A-Wish is close and dear to all of our hearts, so we’ve been waiting a while to make this a reality,” De’Aria Anderson told Kraken.

Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington teamed up with Kraken to make their first official wish in the form of a franchise. Jackson was invited to the Kraken Community Iceplex to spend a day practicing with the team.

“He got a limo that took him to breakfast and then he got to skate with the team and get a tip from his favorite player, goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer!” Kathryn Mueller told Make-A-Wish.

Training with the team was just an icebreaker for Jackson as a big surprise awaits him at the Climate Pledge Arena. Kraken trainer Ron Francis signed Jackson for a day and he was given his own custom Kraken uniform and pads. Jackson was introduced to fans as the special guest goalkeeper, and applause erupted for him as he appeared on the giant screen.

Boboth’s family said it was truly a dream come true and Jackson admitted he learned a lot on the ice.

“Being a goalkeeper is hard!” Jackson grinned.

Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington granted nearly 8,000 wishes to children in the local community.
