Serena Williams to wear diamond-encrusted Nike fit

As she gears up for the final tennis tournament of her illustrious career, Serena Williams and Nike have a range of elevated outfits and trainers in store for the US Open.

The tennis icon, designed months ago following insights from Williams, will take the court in a figure skating-inspired dress. Using cues and construction details derived from the competition apparel often worn on ice, Nike says Williams wanted to hark back to the grace and elegance of the figure skating silhouette.

The skirt has six layers as a nod to her six previous singles titles at Flushing Meadows, starting with her first US Open championship aged 17 in 1999. Nike also provided Williams with a matching jacket and tote bag for her arrival, each featuring attached crystals meant to shine brightly during the evening tennis match.

On her feet, Serena will lace up a diamond-encrusted special edition NikeCourt Flare 2, the brand’s latest statement tennis sneaker. As well as the diamond-encrusted Swoosh along the heel, the black shoes also feature a solid gold tip deubré with 400 hand-set diamonds, created in collaboration with her jewelry company Serena Williams.

Williams has been a prominent face of the brand since signing with Nike in 2003 and will continue her partnership with the company long after she has retired.

Earlier this year, as part of the company’s 50th anniversary celebrations, Nike unveiled the Serena Williams Building at its headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. The sprawling 1 million square foot building is now the largest on the brand’s campus. In addition to multiple design labs, research studios, and exhibition spaces, presentations take place in the two-story Olympia Theater, named for her daughter.

Williams will also continue her Serena Williams Design Crew program at Nike, an annual training for a mix of 10 different young designers who work with the brand to create Serena-branded footwear and apparel collections. Serena Williams to wear diamond-encrusted Nike fit
