Shane Manley shot while working at a bar.

Shane Manley was shot in the stomach while breaking up an altercation at a bar in Syracuse.

Minutes before Orange Crate Brewing Company in Syracuse, NY closed for the night, a gunshot was heard from inside the facility. Professional mixed martial artist Shane Manley was the one fighting that night and was about to break up a fight between the two men. When he intervened in the melee taking place at the small entrance of the brewery, he was punched in the back of the head. Moments later, he heard a gunshot and felt sick to his stomach. When he looked down, he recognized the blood and realized what had happened.

Here is the unfortunate news reported by TBE Boxing on Twitter:

According to Syracuse.com, a news site for Advance Media New York, Manley explained:

“Honestly, I thought I was hit by something,” he said, “then when I saw the blood I knew I had been shot and I was in shock.”

Customers fled the bar, as did two men fighting. A colleague stayed with Manley and applied pressure to his wound until an ambulance arrived. The 33-year-old was rushed to Upstate University Hospital, where he had surgery and is still recovering. He hopes to be discharged from the hospital next week.

A GoFundMe campaign was created to help him cover the cost of medical bills and money loss due to not having a job.
