In an interview with Collider, Simu Liu has hinted at what fans can expect from the upcoming one Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Consequence.

The actor spoke about the pressure relief he is experiencing since he no longer does it “Creating this character basically every day” while under a massive production budget as it was for the first. He explained that “In general, when something is unproven, you’re under the most pressure:”

“Generally, you feel the most pressure when something is unproven. There really is a lot at stake. I remember shooting the first movie and thinking, ‘Okay, we’re making this character basically every day.’ The stakes couldn’t be higher given the film’s $100 bajillion budget. I think those are the circumstances where the pressure would be the highest.”

Liu then talked about the positive emotions he feels “return to [a] world that we’ve spent so much time coming up with ideas and thinking about:”

“Going into a sequel feels exciting. It doesn’t necessarily feel like there’s any pressure to perform or excel. It feels like we started a world, and there’s just something really nostalgic and exciting about going back to that world that we’ve spent so much time coming up with ideas and thinking about.”

Liu stated that the sequel will follow “Going through some things again, but also showing the viewer something new.” He particularly emphasized “The incredible action we were celebrated for in the first film” that fans should expect to return Shan Chi 2along with new developments for the title character.

“And then we’re going to rethink some things, but also show the viewer new things. We’ll deliver all of the amazing action we were celebrated for in the first film, but then hopefully explore new sides of Shaun’s character and the characters around him.”

He finished teasingly “That means, of course, if we can still afford Michelle Yeoh:”

“That means, of course, if we can still afford Michelle Yeoh. She is the top of the world and simply the queen of everything.”

What will Shang-Chi 2 be about?

With these clues from Simu Liu, fans can speculate as to what these are “new sides of Shaun’s character and the characters around him” will be.

The ending of the first film set up Xu Xialing (Meng’er Zhang) as the reformer of the 10 Rings and teased them “will return” in a post-credits scene. Perhaps this new direction for the character will be explored more fully in the sequel.

Additionally, fans of Shang-Chi themselves know that he and Katy (Awkwafina) have been placed in talks with some key Avengers and allies. Perhaps the new sides that fans can expect will help Shang-Chi adjust to his new team and new expectations.

There is no known release date for Shan Chi 2but his predecessor Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsis currently streaming on Disney+.
