Shooting outside Philadelphia school: 3 shot, dozens of rounds fired outside Frances Willard Elementary

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Three people were injured after bullets began flying outside a school in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia.

The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. Wednesday outside Frances Willard Elementary School.

Arriving officers found a 20-year-old man in the schoolyard. The police took him to the hospital, where he is in stable condition.

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old woman and a 17-year-old man were taken to hospital in a private vehicle. They are also in stable condition.

According to the police, 30 shell casings were found – and many of them were rifle cartridges.

One of the bullets went through the school’s door and landed in a lobby. A parked, unattended car near where the victims stood was hit by bullets 15 times.

“We know that someone fired a semi-automatic rifle several times. We also found semi-automatic handgun rounds with a total of 30 shots fired,” Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

Two weeks ago, the city announced a $10,000 reward for cases of shootings near schools, recreation centers and libraries.
