Shooting outside Sacramento club leaves 1 dead, 4 wounded

One person was killed and four injured by gunfire early Monday morning in a popular downtown Sacramento nightlife district — the second time this year that a shooting in the area has claimed multiple lives.

Police received reports of the shooting around 1:50 a.m. on the 16th Street and L Street area, not far from the state capitol, as patrons were exiting bars and clubs. Investigators believe the shooting took place outside on 16th Street near the Mix Downtown nightclub.

Officials have closed J Street and L Street at 16th Street where dozens of small blue evidence cones littered the streets and sidewalks Monday morning.

There are no suspects in custody and police are investigating whether there was more than one shooter.

Authorities are calling on the public to submit relevant tips and videos. A QR code was activated for submitting videos, which the police department distributed on their social media channel.

The July 4 shooting took place not far from the site of a gang shooting in which several gunmen fired a hail of bullets in the early hours of April 3. Police said at least five people drew weapons and opened fire, leaving six dead and 12 wounded.

So far, three suspects have been arrested in connection with the April shooting. Shooting outside Sacramento club leaves 1 dead, 4 wounded
