Simona Halep tops U.S.’s Amanda Anisimova to reach semifinals, will face Elena Rybakina

Simona Halep reached the Wimbledon semifinals on Wednesday with a 6-2, 6-4 win over 20-year-old Amanda Anisimova, the last American in the draw.

The 2019 Wimbledon champion extended her winning streak to 12 games at the All England Club.

16th seeded Halep has not dropped a set en route to the last four.

Next she meets 17th-seeded Elena Rybakina, who defeated Ajla Tomljanovic 4-6 6-2 6-3 on Wednesday to earn a spot in the finals.

The 30-year-old Romanian was unable to defend her 2019 title last year – after the 2020 edition was canceled – due to a calf injury.

Rybakina became the first woman from Kazakhstan to reach the semifinals of a Tomljanovic Grand Slam tournament.

Rybakina hit 15 aces against Tomljanovic.
