Singer Céline Dion announces she has Stiff-Person Syndrome, says she is unable to tour in early 2023

Celine Dion announces she has been diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder called Stiff Person Syndrome and has had to reschedule 2023 tour dates.

In an emotional video, the Canadian singer shared the news of her health issues, which she says are “affecting every aspect of my daily life.”

“I’ve struggled with health issues for a long time and it’s been really difficult for me to face those challenges and talk about everything I’ve been through,” she said. “I was recently diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called stiff person syndrome, which affects approximately one in a million people.”

“While we are still learning about this rare condition, we now know that it is at the root of all of my cramps. Unfortunately, these cramps affect every aspect of my daily life. Sometimes they cause difficulty walking and don’t allow me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to,” she continued.

Stiff-person syndrome is a rare neurological disorder with characteristics of other autoimmune diseases, according to The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Twice as many women as men are affected, according to the organization, and scientists don’t yet know what causes the condition.

The singer announced that she will postpone her 2023 tour to focus on her health.

“It hurts me to tell you today, it means I won’t be ready to resume my tour in Europe in February,” she said.

Dion said she relies on the support of her children for hope and is listening to her “amazing medical team” to rebuild her strength and capacity.

“I have to admit it was a struggle. All I know is singing. I’ve done that all my life. It’s what I love to do the most,” she said.

Speaking to her fans, Dion said: “I miss you so much. I miss seeing you all. to be on stage. to perform for you. I always give 100% when I do my shows but my condition doesn’t allow me to reach you again I need to focus on my health at this moment and hope I’m on the road to recovery. This is my focus and I’m doing everything I can to recover.”

Late last year, Dion had also planned a triumphant return to Las Vegas, but “severe and persistent muscle spasms” prevented her from performing at both the tour and upcoming residency.
