Smithsonian, Two Other Museums Return Benin Bronzes to Nigeria

Three US museums transferred ownership of more than two dozen works of art known as the Benin Bronzes to Nigeria on Tuesday, part of an effort to return works they say have been stolen more than a century previous century.

British soldiers took thousands of artifacts during a raid on the Kingdom of Benin in 1897, in what is now Nigeria, as Great Britain expanded its colonial empire in West Africa.
