Snapchat’s new AR lenses let you try on and buy Halloween costumes

Snapchat has launched a range of new Lenses to help you find Halloween costumes for parties and events you’re attending this month. These new AR lenses give you the opportunity to virtually try on costumes from some of the shows and films in recent history that have helped define pop culture as we know it. And yes, you can buy them in the app. The selection includes characters and costumes Harry Potter, Squid Game, Stranger Things, Hocus Pocus, Transformers, Power Rangers and other titles.

Snap says it conducted a study with consulting firm Ipsos and found that shopping has become the number one reason people use augmented reality. In fact, more and more retailers and businesses are offering augmented reality tools that allow you to try on the goods they sell. Snap itself has been expanding its AR fitting capabilities for a while, and back in August it introduced the ability for brands to connect their catalogs to their in-app AR Lens experiences. Its announcement states that it is developing more tools around augmented reality shopping.

If you want to buy Halloween costumes on Snapchat, all you need to do is full body functions. Snapchat’s computer vision technology superimposes the product image on your body in the photo, and you can snap and share with friends if you like. You can find the Halloween try-on lenses in the Disguise Costumes account. Just search for that username in the app, or search for specific series or movie titles in Snapchat’s Lens Explorer.
