Perhaps to prepare us all – give us time to make banners to wave at home or replenish our tissue supplies – some SNL The news broke on Friday, the eve of the show’s season 47 finale: Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnonand Kyle Mooney all will leave the cast after one final show. (Despite being their colleague, co-anchor of Weekend Update Michael Cherecently talked about making a similar move, still unconfirmed as of this writing whether the finale is over or not SNL run too.) No member can get a result as complex as Kristen WiigTen seasons ago, but the breakup started early.
You could tell that this episode is special for the cold ways of opening doors that are different from what is now common practice. First, the presenter (Natasha Lyonne) no in measurement; Second: it’s not topical. Instead, it’s another iteration of a sketch we’ve seen a few times over SNL: a trio of UFO experiencers being interviewed by officials at the Pentagon. Both Lyonne’s character and her left-handed neighbor (Cecily Manh) had fun, transcendent interactions with the aliens they had met; McKinnon takes on the role of Colleen Rafferty, who has had numerous visits with aliens, all of which weird.
This time, they caught her in her “beautiful suit” (she calls it that because “if you saw them, you’d wonder where they were”), then fascinated by her bohemian pubs: “Why clean the house if no one is passing by, right?” Somehow, this extremely hairy sketch takes an unexpected turn.
Bryant and Davidson saved their goodbyes for the Weekend Update. Bryant was up first, join Bowen Yang in the new section of their Trend Forecast segment. If you need to know what lies ahead in the world of fruit, greetings and times, then this report has you covered completely. (“The Kitchen is Closed” is the time, and it is being NOTES.) Bryant and Yang ended it with sweet words for each other, and for Che.
Davidson later appeared at the Update desk as himself, as he had several times during his tenure. He admits viewers were just watching to see if he “put up” Kanye [West]“; confirm that he is really, really gone; open again Dan Crenshaw scandal of 2018 – and why not, as it’s back relevant this week; and finally has a clear emotion when describing his time at SNL meaningful to him.
Updates also have time for Alex Moffat shows up as a Guy who just bought a boat – a ship that probably comes with a big book of sex/travel games, since what this guy is mostly talking about is where to take a woman gets on your boat to make her want to have sex with you. I wouldn’t bet NBC’s Standards and Practices remove this character’s lewd pun on Positano, but the season is over; maybe they got knocked down early.
