Sonic Frontiers: New Teaser Shows First Taste Of Open-World Gameplay

Sonic Frontiers was teased back in 2019 before being teased again in 2021. It was originally set to drop last year, but instead became a 2022 title, with a new trailer debuting at The Game Awards 2021. Now, as we anticipate Blue Blur’s 3D return sometime this year, Sega has released a new teaser trailer that gives us just a taste of Sonic’s first open-world foray, and it looks fantastic.

This new teaser comes via the official twitter account of Sonic the Hedgehogwho released the trailer along with the news that Sonic Frontiers is getting it IGN First treatment in June. In fact, according to the tweet, we’ll be getting some world exclusive reveals very soon, which, if this teaser trailer is anything to go by, means we’ll likely get some more in-depth gameplay glimpses in June. For now, the teaser trailer below will have to suffice:

As you can see in the trailer, a lot happens in just that brief 30-second glimpse. There’s tons of full-speed open-world racing, lots of rails to grind, enemies to destroy, and it seems like there are even tower-like control points to activate or interact with. I’d bet you’ll need to do this to open up more of the game’s open-world map, but that’s just conjecture for now. Hopefully we’ll find out more soon.
