Sony Confirms 3 Different Branches for Its Future Marvel Movies

Spider-Man’s popularity is as high as ever in 2022 thanks to many cinematic universes that use web-slinger on the big and small screens. Sony and Marvel have teamed up to deliver the biggest movie of 2021 in Spider-Man: There’s no way homewhile Sony also worked solo on its own Spidey series on a few different continuums.

Over the next few years, the studio behind the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has a number of new projects set to make its mark on the big screen in order to keep the hero alive. While by Tom Holland Spiderman 4 in the MCU there is still a time, animation Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versewith Kraven the Hunter and Madame WebAll are set to premiere in 2023.


With all this new material coming from Sony, there’s still the lingering question of how the different stories coexist. Now, coming from a recently updated report on both of the aforementioned Spiderman 4 and Sydney Sweeney’s Madame Web. Also in that report, the Sony CEO provided some clear explanations on how things work with the management of it all.

Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse

As Deadline reports, Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothman explained how the company classifies its Spider-Man-related properties.

Rothman revealed that Sony group “Marvel business … into three batches” Based on past and future movies they include:


1.) Animation Spider-Verse trilogy of works. According to Rothman, “We are currently working on two Spider-Verse sequel to our Oscar-winning animated film, with [Phil] God and [Chris] Miller. “

2.) Spider-Man films led by Tom Holland, co-produced by Marvel Studios. Rothman hopes that “whole group” cast & filmmakers, including Holland, Zendaya, and director Jon Watts, will return for a fourth installment.

3.) Spider-Man movie in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which is “backup to the Spider-Man universe,” with upcoming films including Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven due to be released next year as well as Madame Web Movie set to start shooting is about to premiere.

While this report doesn’t confirm that these universes exist separately from each other, it does help clarify how Sony is focusing its attention on movies in its own Spider-Verse. It also gives fans a clearer indication of the differences between all three of the core stories that Sony is telling, both with Marvel Studios and on their own.

While there’s no indication as to whether these universes will ever intersect, making sure everything is arranged behind the scenes is especially important considering how many Sony has. characters and plot.
