Southwest Philadelphia Shooting: 13-year-old girl hit by stray bullet after gunmen open fire into South 65th Street home

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A 13-year-old girl was killed by a stray bullet in a shooting in southwest Philadelphia early Tuesday morning.
It happened just before 1 a.m. at the 2600 block of South 65th Street.
The action cam at the crime scene showed police examining bullet holes in a living room window and shell casings in the street.
“We know that over 10 shots went through the living room window and this girl was standing right by the living room window a few feet away and she was hit in the shoulder,” said Scott Small, chief inspector of the Philadelphia Police Department.
Arriving officers found the 13-year-old victim at a home where she had been visiting family.
There were about ten people in the home, children and adults.
Police say the girl was in the first-floor living room, just meters from a window, when more than 30 shots were fired in the street.
Police believe a man in his 20s was followed and ran into the house where he knows some of the people.
Witnesses told police a dark four-door sedan pulled up at the intersection, two men got out and fired.
The girl was hit in the shoulder by a stray bullet. Officials took her to the hospital in stable condition.
She is the fifth child under the age of 13 to be shot this year. At this point, only one child had been shot last year.
“We believe this man in his late 20s was the intended target and as he ran into the home, the vehicle stopped and began firing multiple shots into the home,” Small said.
The man, in his 20s, is being questioned by the police.
Investigators say there are surveillance cameras in the area.
