ANACORTES, Wash. – It’s as close to the water as you can get without going for a swim.
“You don’t have to be able to paddle. We’ll take you paddling,” says Megan Schorr, co-owner of Anacortes Kayak Tours. “All you have to do is go out there and have a good attitude and have fun.”
As the gateway to the San Juan’s, the waters around Anacortes offer the perfect spot for kayaking.
“We have people meeting at each departure point where the trip departs about 30 minutes before the actual departure point. And then, once the whole group is gathered, the guide will put everyone in their life jackets and skirts and give them a paddle.”
After you’ve discussed the security measures, it’s time to push off.
“We walk our 1.5 hour what we call our family tour or the quickly, So this is a great trip for people with small children or older people who want to get on the water,” said Schorr. “You don’t need to have any prior knowledge at all. The guide will give you enough information to enjoy your 1 1/2 hour ride, 3 hour ride, 5 hour ride.”
“Sea kayaks pull very little water, so we can get right up to shore and study the intertidal zone,” Schorr explained. “I’m just telling people that every trip is unique and of course I can’t guarantee wildlife, but if you get out here you’ll have a chance to see all kinds of creatures.”
Whether it’s a quick trip or a few days, Anacortes Kayak Tours has a trip on the water you won’t soon forget.
“It’s something you can do outside. It’s a gift they give themselves and their friends that doesn’t collect dust, and they get to move their bodies and they create memories.”
