Spider-Man scribe Dan Slott returns for Marvel’s new Spider-Verse series

Dan Slott is returning to Spider-Verse this summer with a new five-volume anthology that introduces wild new multiverse variations on Spider-Man – but don’t get too attached! New August Edge of Spider-Verse is all in preparation for what Slott and Marvel are paying out as the ultimate Spider-Verse story: End of the Spider-Versecome later in 2022.

“Marvel has decided to do the unthinkable, go big and bring the story of the Spider-Verse comics to a fiery conclusion,” Slott told Polygon via email. “Yes that’s right. Later this year, we’ll all be testifying to the END OF SPIDER VERSION!”

Of course, very few things really end up in the never-ending world of superhero comics, but pretending they would be half the fun. “If you ask me, it’s madness,” said Slott enthusiastically. “Why did they do it? WHY? They could have been milking this spider cow for decades. That said, if you’re going to do it, it’s to be in a glorious light. Quang is definitely the way to go!”

But before the end of Spider-Verse there will be a Edge of Spider-Versespiritual sequel to the 2014 anthology of the same name tied to the original Spider-Verse intersect, expanding behind the scenes of different Spider-Mans from alternate universes. On sale in August, new Edge of Spider-Verse is an opportunity for many creators to add new characters to the Spider-Man multiverse in the same way that today’s popular characters like Spider-Gwen/Ghost Spider, Peni Parker, and Spider-Man Noir were introduced. .

And thanks to the support of Marvel Comics, Polygon can introduce some of those hopeful new spiders right now.

Character design document for Night-Spider, a woman in a black and white spider-themed single-piece outfit, with a domino mask and her long white hair tied in a ponytail.

Slott tells Polygon that Night-Spider is the character of a world-class thief – lucky superpower Felicia Hardy comes from a universe where she has spider powers instead of Peter Parker, with a costume designed by Kris Anka .

A character design for Hunter-Spider, a heroic version of Kraven the Hunter with spiderman powers. He's a bearded man wearing the pants and gloves of a Spider-Man costume, and the whole thing is a giant spider in a revealing vest. He was shirtless under his vest. The cobweb creates a lion-like mane on the shoulders.

A black and white character design ticket for Spider-Laird, a bearded, stern-looking man wearing a mask and kilometers of cobwebs, with a pair of cut glasses on his belt.

Hunter-Spider, designed by Mark Bagley, comes from an earth where Sergei Kravenoff has spider powers “in a most unusual way,” according to Slott. “I don’t want to give away anything more than that right now, other than to say it’s an explosion that writes a ‘Kraven the Spider’ hero.”

And Spider-Laird, co-created with artist Martin Coccolo, Slott proudly says, is “Spider-Verse’s first heavy-wearing hero.” According to Slott, this new skin “will allow cosplayers more freedom of movement and a chance to let their knees breathe.”
