Stagecoach bus driver, 23, dies after horror crash on Scots road

THE DRIVER of a Stagecoach bus has died after a horrific crash on a busy road in Scotland.

Rescue workers rushed to the scene of the accident on the A77 near the junction with the A719 on Monday evening.

After the alarm went off around 5.30pm, officers also rushed to the area near Galston in East Ayrshire.

A white Ford Transit and a single-story Stagecoach bus were involved in the accident.

The driver of the bus, a 23-year-old man, was taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He tragically passed away in hospital yesterday.

The driver of the transit, a 42-year-old man, was also taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries.

Medical professionals have described his condition as stable.

Police have confirmed that the investigation into the incident is ongoing and are asking anyone with information about the accident to come forward.

They have urged anyone with information to speak to the officers.

They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage of the area around the time of the crash.

A statement from Police Scotland said: “A 23-year-old man has died in a serious accident on the A77 near Galston in East Ayrshire on Monday 14 August 2023.”

“The incident happened around 5.30pm near the junction with the A719 and involved a white Ford Transit and a single deck Stagecoach bus.

“The 23-year-old bus driver was taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died in hospital on Saturday August 19, 2023.

“The transit driver, a 42-year-old man, was also taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries. His condition is described as stable.”

“An investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances and anyone with information, including footage from dashcams, who has not already spoken to officers is asked to get in touch.”
